Shimokawa Dental Clinic
-Leaf shades like see-through pattern on traditional Japanese paper-
This is a small dental clinic adjacent to the arterial roadway in Chikugo, Fukuoka. We proposed a characteristic exterior with leaf shaped glass inlayed on its metal surface.
Our concept of this design is the flowing two intentions.
One is to make a relaxing atmosphere in a dental clinic, where patients often becomes nervous and anxious. The fragmented exterior walls around the center square core makes a multiple of spaces inside, and makes a familiar relationship between its outer green and inner space. Leaf shades on the exterior wall have various depth feel and enfolds its interior.
The other is to appeal its existence not only with a roadside sign, but also as a whole building scape. The leaf shaped pattern, like see-through patterns on the traditional Japanese paper, which is one of the traditional crafts in this area, matches the local cityscape and makes a new identity on this clinic.
This ornamental and abstract pattern of the exterior openings has a potential to bring the architecture, bounded by the standardized product and ready-made ideas , into a new concept of value.
