Stunning Staircase Spirals Out from a Single Spine


The beauty in modular design comes when the designer deploys the right module in a compelling configuration. There is one simple shape that is central to this creative spiral staircase by Patrick Jouin, but in its repetition it is a unique work of unfolding beauty.


The central spine is strong enough - even in its twists, turns and cantilevers - to fan out each wooden step. Arcing steel railings tie delicately into the center but seem to float in space from a distance.


From above and below, the wood grain provides a contrasting and changing set of fine-grain textures set against the regular rhythms of the overall stair design.Best of interior and architecture
